Of the comics you’ve written for DC, which one would you recommend to newcomers to the comic genre?
That’s easy—it’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This is the book I always wanted to make. You can give to anyone, and they can read it knowing absolutely nothing about comics and fall in love with the medium. To me, Supergirl is a ticket to our world, an adventure; it’s sort of a key that unlocks DC Comics and I’m incredibly proud to have it on my list.
What kind of potential did you see in Supergirl to do a story like this?
This is a different character. This is someone who, for lack of a better term, has been through something. She’s a character that rewards a second glance. She’s a character that rewards digging. She’s a character that rewards reading. She has such emotional depth to her character work…When I write comics, I always look for human moments. I write these larger-than-life gods, but what makes them special is the fact that they’re as vulnerable and as flawed and as beautiful as us, as humans.
